The right listing type

Pick the offer type that fits how your software is sold.

Microsoft's commercial marketplace supports several offer types and pricing models. Deciding the right one for your business can be overwhelming — that's where Automatum comes in. We help you evaluate options and select the best offer type, then handle the configuration end-to-end.

SaaS

Sell your software as a subscription on the Microsoft Commercial Marketplace.

With the SaaS application offer type on Microsoft's commercial marketplace, you can offer your software as a subscription service to customers. This option is available for both server-based and true SaaS products, giving you flexibility in how you package and price your solution.

By leveraging Automatum's expertise and the power of the commercial marketplace, you can monetize your product and reach a global audience of potential customers and partners.

Partnering with Automatum gives you the support you need for both short-term and long-term success on the Microsoft Commercial Marketplace. We handle the entire process — from Partner Center onboarding to transactable offer configuration — so you can get your product listed in less than six weeks, compared to the typical 3–4 months it may take on your own.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Azure Marketplace.

How long does it take to list on Azure Marketplace?

With Automatum, most ISVs can publish to Microsoft's Commercial Marketplace in 4-6 weeks. This covers Partner Center setup, technical configuration, offer creation, and Microsoft review. Without expert support, the process typically takes 3-5 months.

What listing types does Azure Marketplace support?

Azure Marketplace supports SaaS offers, Azure Virtual Machine images, Azure Container offers, Managed Applications, and Consulting Services. Automatum helps you configure the right offer type and pricing model for your product.

Can buyers use their Microsoft Azure committed spend (MACC)?

Yes. Products with Azure IP co-sell eligible status qualify for MACC (Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment) drawdown. This means enterprise buyers can apply their existing Azure spend commitments to your software, making procurement significantly faster.

How does co-selling with Microsoft work?

Through Microsoft's co-sell program, you can share deal opportunities with Microsoft field sellers who can provide joint customer engagement, technical validation, and deal acceleration. Automatum automates referral submission and tracking through Partner Center.

Do I need engineering resources to list on Azure Marketplace?

No. Automatum handles the full technical integration including SaaS fulfillment APIs, subscription lifecycle webhooks, landing page configuration, and metering. Your engineering team can stay focused on building your product.

What is the difference between Azure Marketplace and AppSource?

Both are storefronts within Microsoft's Commercial Marketplace. Azure Marketplace targets IT professionals and developers looking for technical solutions, while AppSource targets business users seeking line-of-business applications. Automatum can list your product on both.

What is the Azure Marketplace transaction fee?

Microsoft charges a 3% standard marketplace fee on all transactable offers. This is significantly lower than legacy ISV sales channels.

How long does Azure Marketplace certification take?

Microsoft's certification review typically takes 3–5 business days for SaaS offers. Complex offers such as VMs and Managed Apps can take up to 2 weeks.

What is MACC and why does it matter for ISVs?

MACC (Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment) lets enterprise buyers use their committed Azure spend to purchase ISV solutions. This removes the need for a separate budget approval, which can dramatically improve close rates.

Do I need co-sell status to list on Azure Marketplace?

No — any ISV can publish a transactable offer. However, achieving IP Co-Sell Ready status unlocks Microsoft's field sales team as a referral source and makes your solution MACC-eligible.

Can I offer custom pricing to specific customers on Azure Marketplace?

Yes. Azure Marketplace supports private offers, which let you set custom pricing, terms, and discount structures for individual enterprise customers. Standard marketplace fees apply.

Azure Marketplace explained

Everything ISVs need to know about the Azure Marketplace.

What is the Azure Marketplace?

The Azure Marketplace is Microsoft's commercial transactable storefront, part of the broader Microsoft Commercial Marketplace (which also includes AppSource). It lets ISVs publish and sell SaaS applications, virtual machine images, containers, and managed services to Microsoft's 4M+ active customers worldwide. What makes it distinctive for ISVs: enterprise buyers can use their committed Azure spend — MACC (Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment) — to purchase ISV solutions, removing the need for a separate procurement budget and dramatically improving deal velocity. Microsoft charges a 3% standard transaction fee on marketplace sales, reduced from the previous 20% standard rate in 2021.

How to list on Azure Marketplace

  1. Create a Microsoft Partner Center account at partner.microsoft.com — this is the publisher portal for all Commercial Marketplace offers.
  2. Set up your publisher profile and accept the Microsoft Publisher Agreement and program-specific agreements.
  3. Create a new offer — choose your offer type: SaaS Application, Virtual Machine, Container, or Managed Application.
  4. Define your pricing plan — flat rate, per-user seat, consumption-based metering, or custom enterprise pricing.
  5. Submit for Microsoft certification review — typically 3–5 business days for SaaS offers; up to 2 weeks for VM and Managed App offers.
  6. Publish — your offer goes live to Azure customers globally, with the option to make it private (invite-only) or publicly discoverable.

Co-Sell & MACC

Achieving IP Co-Sell Ready status unlocks Microsoft's field sales team as an active referral channel — Microsoft AEs can recommend and co-sell your solution alongside Azure services. MACC-eligible solutions can be purchased using the buyer's existing Azure commitment, removing the need for a separate procurement approval and dramatically improving close rates. Automatum automates the co-sell referral sync, deal registration, and MACC eligibility tracking so your team focuses on closing, not paperwork.
